Enoshima is famous for its beach and the views of Mount Fuji. More importantly, the island is also full of historical places, where the Buddhism and later Shintoism were established here in the 6th century. Most of the attractions in Enoshima Island are at the top of the hill but pay escalators are available for those who do not want to climb the stairs. It is known as a romantic island. As from the Japanese mythology, Benzaiten who created the Enoshima Island agrees to marry the sea dragon if he will tame his troubled ways. Therefore, Benzaiten is known as the goddess of love, who used her love to tame the sea dragon. Additionally, Enoshima shrine as well offers pink ema (wooden prayer plates), with hearts on them are popular amongst couples too. Benzaiten is also the goddess of music, fortune, knowledge, words, eloquence and wealth. Since Benten is the Goddess of Wealth, some visitors will wash their money at the shrine's pond. Enoshima Benten Bashi (Bridge)The Enoshima Benten Bashi (Bridge) is a 600 meter long bridge connecting the Enoshima Island and the mainland. It is constructed on part of the sea. The bridge is well designed with a pedestrian street which is completely separated from the vehicle lanes. You may also cross the naturally exposed land at low tides under the bridge to the Enoshima Island. It provides beautiful scenery along the bridge. If the weather permits, you can even enjoy the views of Mount Fuji. When you starts to walk along the bridge, you will come across with two large dragons sculptures that guards the entrance to the island and accompany with some nice colourful flowerbeds around.
